Collection
Chicago, 1931
Twelve views of Chicago, made in a single year by a man who had spent thirty years etching the old cities of Europe.
Donald Shaw MacLaughlan came to Chicago in 1931 and cut nine plates and three sheets of the newest city in the world — the canyons at dusk, the avenue under cloud, a lit tower over the river at night. He signed and dated them in the copper. The museum that holds them records no date, no medium and no measurements for a single one.
