Chopin’s own hand — the whole of the Prelude in E minor, Largo, on one leaf of his manuscript of the 24 Preludes. Nothing redrawn.
The document
A faithful facsimile of leaf 3 verso of Chopin’s autograph of the 24 Preludes, Op. 28, held at the Biblioteka Narodowa in Warsaw (Mus. 93 Cim.). The top of the leaf holds the close of Prelude No. 3; below, after “Largo” and the numeral IV, the fourth prelude runs complete to its last chord and “fine”. A marking beneath “Largo” is struck through in his ink.
About the artist
Fryderyk Chopin (1810–1849) had already written much of the cycle when he left Paris for Majorca with George Sand in October 1838. He finished it on the island that winter.
The print
Printed to order and made to last. Choose Museum Matte (heavyweight matte art paper) or Fine Art Giclée (Hahnemühle cotton paper — the archival standard).
